Biography

Jeska Stephens currently lives and works Melbourne. Although predominantly a photographic and video artist, she is beginning to explore and incorporate the mediums of painting and sculpture to add a new, more immersive dimension to her concepts. She completed a Bachelor Degree in Photography at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), in 2014. There she explored her love for portraiture, photographic art, video art and alternative processes while also gaining the technical skills involved in being a proficient photographer. In the process of conceptually building ideas, particular themes began to emerge that explored identity, gender and sexuality. After a four-month trip through India, she became deeply inspired by the collective spirituality of the country and has more recently begun to incorporate the theme of spirituality and healing in to her work.

She has been involved in group shows throughout Melbourne at The Owl & The Pussy Cat, No Vacancy Gallery, The Atrium at Federation Square, and most recently she was invited to take part in the People Can Change exhibition at The Melbourne Arts Club; a show dedicated in memory of Myuran Sukumaran, with proceeds from all work sold directly donated to the art therapy program provided by the Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery centre.

She continues to pursue her training within the visual arts so that she may expand her artistic practice to create large scale, conceptual installations that have the ability to be a completely immersive and highly interactive experience for an audience.
